For the first few weeks you will find yourself working so hard to blend with your new job, colleagues and bosses. In some cases you could have that one or two nice colleagues who will be there to ease that period for you. They let you know what and how your work environment is like, the kind of superiors you have and how to manage them.

The truth is that you find yourself among new group of people from different backgrounds and upbringing, there's always be probability that there would be some annoying ones. But the secret to surviving is your ability to take there excesses, while you also work on helping them build better work relationship attitude.

How to source and apply for unadvertized Jobs in Nigeria Yourself
Although few companies directly contact job websites and some job openings they get from those advertised on newspapers, have you ever taken time to wonder how they get the job openings they post? Not even all of the job site admins know how to source for vacancies as they only copy and paste from the few that undergo the stress of sourcing for those vacancies.
Why wait for jobberman.com, hotnigerianjobs.com, ngcareers.com to post that company's vacancy before you apply? The truth is that most organizations don't even advertise vacancies at all. They get it filled up in-house. Yes! That supports my regular saying that "its not as if there are no jobs in Nigeria, just that the jobs are for family and friends including the lucky few".
Some companies don't want to take the extra cost of advertising vacancies on newspapers and paid online job posting platform like linkedin. What do they do? They either just advertise it on the company's website for the smart ones to see and apply or simply announce it between employees to pass across or through some other means that it might not get to the publics hearing before it gets filled up.
As you continue to read, I would be giving you a Do It Yourself steps of sourcing for jobs without waiting for job sites. Because when it gets posted on job sites, the competition would be much as many many many qualified candidates would send in their applications and recruiters mostly use 'the first come, first serve' formula in picking qualified applicants. So be prepared to be the first in sending job applications.
The techniques are;
1. Visiting the company's office:
This is a traditional but still effective way for sourcing for jobs. If you are interested in working for a company, make regular visits to their office asking for vacancies and submitting your CV. Depending on your approach and the person with whom you submit your CV(that's if it don't get dumped in the trash bin), when vacancies in your field come up, you would be among the first to be considered.
2. Visiting the company's website:
An organization with an active and regularly updated website would post on its career page open vacancies when they come. So, directly stalking your dream workplace website for open positions won't be a bad idea. Remember the first come, first serve recruiter method.
3. Using Linkedin:
It is advisable that every job seeker or employees looking to change job should join Linkedin. It allows you to search and apply for unadvertised jobs posted directly by recruiters (companies HR officers).
Bookmark on your browser and at Regular intervals, check linkedin.com/job/jobs-in-nigeria/?trk=jserp_search_button_execute to view and apply for jobs posted for Nigerians. Most would redirect you to the advertising company's website, while some would need you to apply with your linkedin profile and that's why you need to be SIGNED UP on the website. Visit linkedin.com and locate the SIGN UP option.
4. Carrying out a google search:
Visit google.com.ng or google.ng. The .com.ng or .ng is aimed at narrowing most of your search results to Nigeria.
After opening the above google url, enter search queries (one at a time) like "vacancies, vacancy, careers, career, jobs, job, recruitment, etc). Majority of your search results will display Nigerian companies career pages. There you would be able to check through available job opportunities. Carry out this search at least twice in every month.

Awkward but Sure Way To Get Hired by your Interviewer
The job market has become so competitive that every candidate needs to device a means of acing every stage of his/her recruitment.
Starting from applying for the job, getting invited for and passing the job assessment test to interviews which many think is somewhat the last and easiest stage of a recruitment process. But unfortunately, many candidates after successfully making it to this last stage, still get dropped.
I personally have used the technique I'll be discussing in this post and it have worked for me. In as much as you (candidate) need to equip yourself with the knowledge of the role you will be interviewing for, and researching about the organization, it will be wise of you to know that every candidate for that position has do so much to know what you have known. Meaning, all of you are virtually going to be telling your interviewer the same boring story.
In a position where 10 candidates are interviewing for and only one candidate is needed, the best candidate then is that person who is able to somehow leave a memorable impact on his/her interviewer(s).
Here is the crazy technique:
Your interviewers are human beings like you and have as at one point in their lives been in your shoe. So, wave away that fear that you would be sitting in front of semi-gods. Confidence in this situation is key. Although many can't help but still get nervous, try to maintain your calm and prove yourself.
Majority interview invites comes with names of your interviewer(s). Do a quick social media (google, facebook, linkedin, etc) search on them. Know the people you would be interviewing with before time. If you are lucky with your search, you would trace your way to find some of them active on forums like nairaland.com, etc. Hold onto some key points about any of them from your search.
On the day of your interview, try to answer your interviewers questions accordingly and intelligently to the best of your knowledge. At the point they ask if you have any questions for them, ask any question related to the job you are being interviewed for and then go further to ask your interviewer(s)personal but intriguing questions from the research/social media search you conducted on them. Doing this, you automatically have caught your interviewers' attention and such person might recommend you for the job.
In my case, after telling one of my interviewers some unexpected things about him, he had no other option to recommend me for the job.
